About Ajprodho - jijukirwa

AJPRODHO–JIJUKIRWA is a youth-led nonprofit organization in Rwanda,
established in the aftermath of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Guided by
a vision of healing, justice, and sustainable peace, the organization believes
in the transformative power of young people to lead the way toward a more just
and equitable society. With a diverse membership of around

150 individuals—80% of whom are under the age of 35—AJPRODHO–JIJUKIRWA promotes inclusive leadership through gender-balanced governance and community-driven initiatives. Its work is anchored in the principles of human rights, social justice, and socio-economic development.

By creating spaces for civic engagement, advocacy, and capacity building, the organization empowers Rwandan youth to actively contribute to national development. Through grassroots programs and strategic partnerships, AJPRODHO–JIJUKIRWA nurtures a generation of informed and responsible young leaders committed to equality, dignity, and lasting peace.

Our Work

AJPRODHO – Jijukirwa works across diverse thematic areas to advance the rights, well-being and empowerment of Rwandan youth and their communities.

Human Rights and Access to Justice:

We contribute towards equitable access to justice for children and youth through enhancing mechanisms to promote and protect Human Rights.

Participatory Governance:

We contribute towards active youth and children participation in decision-making processes.

Youth Economic Empowerment:

We contribute towards increased youth incomes through creating opportunities for youth employability and life skills.

Climate and Environmental Mitigation:

We contribute towards the reduction of adverse impacts of climate change and environmental degradation on youth and children through actions aimed at mitigation and adaptation of climate change.

Policy Research and Advocacy:

We intend to become a knowledge hub for policy research and advocacy around issues affecting youth and children’s rights in Rwanda.

Institutional Capacity Strengthening:

AJPRODHO is able to further its mission by strengthening internal skills, knowledge, structures as well as effective mainstreaming of gender equality and inclusion in its programs.
